Vickers Tavern

The Vickers family were well known for their pottery, but perhaps even more for their work on the Underground Railroad. John Vickers, one of the sons of Thomas Vickers, followed in his father’s footsteps, both as a quality potter and as an abolitionist. His farm in Lionville became a major stop on the Undeground Railroad.

By the 1970’s, the old home of John Vickers was in a sad state, but its new owner, Arturo Burigatto, saw its potential and refurbished the property with an eye to turning it into a fine restaurant, known as Vickers Restaurant.

In 2021, the restaurant was sold and is scheduled to reopen in 2023 as the White Dog Cafe.
